I absolutely LOVED Shape of Water. I am not going to lie, I had low expectations going into this because Mr. H and Hailey did not like this film. So when I watched the film, it exceeded my expectations. Elisa, the main character, is mute and is played by Sally Hawkins. She did an AMAZING job especially since she didn't speak whatsoever. The entire movie is green, and I kept asking Hailey what the importance of green is in the movie. I think green represents "renewed energy." The "renewed energy" expresses Elisa's schedule break. She stopped her regular schedule to start fresh beginnings with herself and friends. Even with Giles (the gay best friend), repainted his advertisement green. The obvious message of Shape of Water is to love beyond differences. I understand the weirdness of fish-human love, but I don't think of it that way. I think of how the fish accepts her for her differences. When Strickland (the antagonist) sexualized Elisa's muteness and said some nasty things to her, it's a great way to compare the fish's love with society's way of seeing her. I really enjoyed this movie, especially the music and the aesthetic.
